Text: Advice from a Spiritual Friend by Geshe Rabten and Geshe Dhargyey.

Gaden Choling deeply appreciates Ven. Zasep Tulku Rinpoche for the guidance that he offers with this teaching.

Lo Jong or training the mind is a method used to overcome our normal self centeredness and cultivating a mind of bodhichitta, the mind wishing to gain enlightenment for the benefit of others. This particular text focusses on the 7 point thought transformation Lo Jong by Kadampa Geshe Chekawa.

Tong Len literally means taking and giving and is the practice of mentally taking on the suffering of others and giving our happiness and virtue through a special meditation on the breath. These practices train us on the Mahayana path.

We are so fortunate to receive these teachings from Ven. Zasep Tulku Rinpoche!

From Buddha Weekly’s YouTube video of Ven. Zasep Tulku Rinpoche: Chöd Teaching: Cutting Attachments with Profound Bodhichitta Practice: How, Why, Where to Practice:

Chöd means to cut through the truly-existent “I”. Chöd practice is an advanced skillful method that enables practitioners to become free of this clinging to the belief and false notion in a truly existent individual self.

The teachings and practice of Chöd are an advanced and effective means to help us cut our ego, tame our mental defilements and develop pure unconditional Bodhichitta for all sentient beings.

According to the Gelug tradition, Chöd practice is aimed at enhancing our meditation on the three principal paths of Lam Rim: Renunciation, Bodhichitta and Shunyata wisdom. By combining both method and wisdom — Bodhichitta practice and meditation on Emptiness — Chöd is considered one of the most advanced practices in Esoteric Buddhism.

Gaden Choling deeply appreciates Ven. Zasep Tulku Rinpoche’s generosity as he offers commentary on this precious guru yoga practice.

As the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, Je Tsongkhapa embodies the Bodhisattvas of Compassion (Avalokiteshvara), Wisdom (Manjushri) and Power (Vajrapani). The Guru Yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa is also known as the Gaden Lhagyama or The Hundreds of Deities of Tushita (the Land of Joy). It is an inspiring and well-loved guru yoga practice that originated from Je Tsongkhapa himself and was disseminated by the First Dalai Lama. This short, profound and concise practice is very deep and has vast, innumerable benefits.

We are so fortunate and thankful as Ven. Zasep Tulku Rinpoche offers this precious Empowerment.

Citipati, also known as the Kinkara Couple or Lords of the Charnel Grounds, is a special Dharma protector for the Tantric practices of Heruka, Vajrayogini, and Chöd.  Citipati serves as a protector deity for graveyards and reminds us of the impermanence of life and all phenomena.
